Risk Disclosure - Staking

Risk Disclosure - Staking

Important Notice

This Risk Disclosure is provided to inform you of the material risks associated with participating in IDOS Staking. It does not constitute financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, and it is not exhaustive. New or unforeseen risks may emerge that are not described here. You must read this document carefully and in full before making any decision to stake IDOS Tokens.

Participation in IDOS Staking is entirely voluntary. By proceeding, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted each of the risks described in this document.

1. Risk of Total or Partial Loss of Staked Tokens

Participating in IDOS Staking exposes you to the risk of losing some or all of your staked IDOS Tokens. Loss may occur as a result of slashing events, smart contract exploits or malfunctions, validator or Node Operator failure, network attacks, protocol-level bugs, mining attacks on the underlying blockchain, or other factors, including factors that are entirely unforeseeable at the time of your participation. This is a material and inherent feature of blockchain staking. You should not stake any amount you cannot afford to lose in its entirety.

2. Slashing Risk

Slashing is a penalty mechanism. Your staked tokens may be partially or wholly slashed if a Node Operator to whom you have delegated acts in a way considered malicious or faulty. Slashing may be triggered by technical errors, software bugs, double-signing, validator downtime, or other conduct by the Node Operator. Slashing events may be permanent and irreversible. idOS Association may have no ability to prevent, reverse, or compensate for slashing events. Slashing may result in the total loss of all your staked tokens.

3. No Guaranteed Rewards

Native Staking Rewards are generated directly by the functioning of the idOS Network. Any reward rate, APR, APY, or yield figure displayed is a protocol-level estimate based on current network conditions only. It is not a promise, projection, guarantee, or commitment by us or by any Node Operator or third party.

Actual rewards may be lower than estimated, zero, or negative. Rewards may vary based on network activity, validator or Node Operator performance, total tokens staked across the network, and other technical or market factors outside our control. Rewards may be reduced or forfeited entirely as a result of slashing, downtime, misbehavior, or other penalties applied at the protocol level. idOS Association makes no promise, representation, or warranty as to the rate, timing, or amount of any Native Staking Rewards. Past reward rates are not indicative of future results.

4. Lock-Up and Unbonding / Liquidity Risk

Once you stake your IDOS Tokens, they may be subject to a lock-up period during which they cannot be transferred, sold, or withdrawn. After you initiate unstaking, an additional unbonding period may apply before your tokens become accessible to you. The duration of these periods is not within our control.

During lock-up and unbonding periods, you will be unable to access or dispose of your staked tokens. This may prevent you from responding to time-sensitive events. You may suffer losses as a result of being unable to act during these periods. You should carefully consider your liquidity needs before staking.

5. Smart Contract Risk

IDOS Staking is executed through self-executing smart contracts deployed on the blockchain. Smart contracts may contain bugs, logic flaws, coding errors, or undiscovered vulnerabilities, including exploit paths that may result in the total loss of your assets. The existence of an audit does not eliminate these risks, as audits reduce but cannot guarantee the absence of vulnerabilities. A smart contract exploit, malfunction, unintended function, or unforeseen operation may result in the partial or total loss of your staked tokens and any accrued rewards, and may cause the smart contract or the tokens to behave unexpectedly or defectively. idOS Association makes no representation that the smart contracts are free from error or will function as intended at all times.

6. Protocol and Network Risk

The idOS Network is subject to technical risks, including but not limited to: validator downtime, network outages, chain reorganisations (re-orgs), consensus failures, and malfunctions of the underlying protocol. These events may result in delays, losses, reduced rewards, or the temporary or permanent inaccessibility of your staked tokens or rewards. idOS Association cannot and does not guarantee the protocol’s availability, stability, or performance.

7. Cybersecurity and Attack Risk

Your wallet, staked tokens, and Native Staking Rewards may be targeted by malicious actors. Attack vectors include but are not limited to: hacking of your personal wallet, phishing attacks designed to obtain your private keys or seed phrase, malware or spyware installed on your device, denial-of-service attacks, sybil attacks, spoofing, smurfing, consensus-based attacks, and mining attacks targeting the smart contracts underpinning IDOS Staking. Such attacks may result in the theft or permanent inaccessibility of your tokens and rewards without any possibility of recovery. You are solely responsible for the security of your devices, wallet software, and access credentials.

8. Private Key and Wallet Security Risk

IDOS Staking is entirely non-custodial. You alone control access to your staked tokens and rewards through your wallet. idOS Association does not hold, have access to, or have any ability to recover your private keys, seed phrase, or wallet credentials under any circumstances. Loss, theft, or compromise of your private keys or seed phrase will result in the permanent and irrecoverable loss of your staked tokens and any accrued Native Staking Rewards. There is no mechanism by which the idOS Association can restore access to a lost or compromised wallet.

9. Node Operator Risk

If you choose to delegate your IDOS Tokens to a Node Operator, your staking outcomes are entirely dependent on that operator's technical competence, infrastructure reliability, uptime, and conduct. idOS Association does not guarantee, control, supervise, endorse, or ensure monitoring of the performance of any Node Operator. Poor technical performance, extended downtime, misbehavior, or malicious conduct by a Node Operator may reduce or eliminate your rewards and may trigger slashing of your delegated tokens, resulting in partial or total loss of your staked assets. You are solely responsible for your choice of Node Operator and for monitoring that operator's ongoing performance.

10. Token and Reward Integrity Risk

IDOS Tokens and Native Staking Rewards may unintentionally contain flaws, bugs, or errors in their source code that affect their functionality, usability, transferability, or value. A malfunction, unintended function, or unforeseen operation of the token contracts may cause your tokens or rewards to behave unexpectedly, become defective, lose value, or become permanently inaccessible. idOS Association makes no representation or warranty regarding the technical integrity, stability, or future functionality of the tokens or rewards.

11. Regulatory and Legal Risk

The legal status of staking activities, including IDOS Staking, and of cryptographic tokens, including IDOS Tokens and Native Staking Rewards, varies across jurisdictions and is subject to rapid and unpredictable change. In some jurisdictions, staking activities or ownership of digital assets may currently be restricted, prohibited, or subject to special licensing or regulatory requirements. In jurisdictions that currently permit staking, new laws or regulations may be introduced in the future that restrict, prohibit, or impose significant compliance obligations on staking activities or token ownership.

idOS Association cannot guarantee that IDOS Staking or the IDOS Tokens are legal in all jurisdictions worldwide. You are solely responsible for determining whether your participation in IDOS Staking is lawful in your jurisdiction and for complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements. idOS Association reserves the right to restrict or terminate access to IDOS Staking in any jurisdiction at any time without prior notice.

12. Tax Risk and Obligations

The receipt, accrual, holding, transfer, or disposal of Native Staking Rewards may give rise to tax obligations in your jurisdiction, including obligations to report income, pay capital gains tax, or comply with other tax or reporting requirements. Tax treatment of staking rewards varies significantly across jurisdictions and may change without notice. idOS Association does not provide tax advice. You are solely responsible for determining your own tax obligations and for complying with them in full. You bear all costs and expenses of any tax compliance obligations arising from your participation. idOS Association strongly recommends that you seek advice from a qualified tax advisor in your jurisdiction before participating in IDOS Staking.

13. Cryptographic and Quantum Computing Risk

IDOS Staking relies on cryptographic mechanisms to secure the network. Advances in cryptography or the development of sufficiently powerful quantum computing could potentially compromise the cryptographic foundations underlying the blockchain and the security of staked assets and rewards. While this risk is currently considered remote, it cannot be excluded, and its realisation could have material adverse consequences for your staked tokens and accrued rewards.

14. No Insurance or Compensation

There is no insurance covering your staked IDOS Tokens or Native Staking Rewards. Neither idOS Association nor any affiliated entity provides, maintains, or has arranged any insurance, guarantee, indemnity, or compensation scheme in respect of your staked assets or rewards. In the event of loss, whether through slashing, smart contract exploit, hacking, protocol failure, or any other cause, you will have no recourse to any insurance fund, compensation scheme, or guarantee from idOS Association or any third party.

15. No Custody, No Control, No Guarantee

idOS Association does not at any point have custody of, or control over, your staked tokens or rewards. idOS Association cannot prevent losses, intervene in slashing events, reverse on-chain transactions, recover stolen or lost tokens, or guarantee the accrual or delivery of rewards. All staking interactions are voluntary actions initiated and controlled entirely by you through your own wallet and at your sole risk.

16. Program Modification, Suspension, and Discontinuation Risk

idOS Association reserves the right to modify, suspend, or permanently discontinue IDOS Staking at any time and without prior notice. This includes the right to change eligibility criteria, reward calculation methodologies, lock-up and unbonding periods, supported Node Operators, and any other aspect of the program. idOS Association also reserves the right to disqualify any participant at any time, including for suspected abuse, fraud, violation of the Terms of Service, or participation from a Restricted Jurisdiction. In the event of suspension or discontinuation, idOS Association makes no guarantee as to the accessibility, timing, or terms of any unstaking or token return process. Your continued participation after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

17. Unforeseen and Unknown Risks

Blockchain technology, cryptographic tokens, and staking mechanisms represent novel and largely untested technology. In addition to the risks described in this document, your participation in IDOS Staking may expose you to further risks that cannot reasonably be foreseen at this time, including risks that may arise in unexpected ways or as combinations of the risks described above. Such unforeseen risks may result in adverse consequences up to and including the complete and permanent loss of your staked tokens and rewards. You acknowledge and accept the existence of such unknown risks as an inherent condition of participation.
